Sound animated sparklines

In understanding data, the auditory senses are rarely used. In an early attempt to benefit from unused awareness channels, we incorporated sound animation in our analysis software suite DeltaMaster in 1999. Different values were represented by different pitches of sound. We learned that data are even more quickly heard than seen. Without prior training, the ear easily recognizes patterns such as stable data with an outlier, an increase followed by a decrease and many others.
